Airbrush Makeup
Why you'd love it: It's light-weight has a beautiful matte or dewy finish depending on your needs. It is a relaxing procedure adding a little extra glam to your big day. It makes you feel like the star you are! Makes you look beautiful and stunning and sets you aside from all the other brides who do regular makeup cause you've enjoyed the airbrush experience!
What it is: A light-weight makeup applied through an air gun machine that produces a thin, even layer of makeup and creates a very matte finish. The key to the airbrush is really in the less is more concept. You get the same great coverage as a regular makeup application, but with less makeup.
How it's used: A small amount of a very thin makeup designed for air brush use is put into a chamber of a gun. When the machine is turned on and the gun trigger pulled, a light spray of makeup comes out of the gun in a fine mist. This results in makeup that is read better on camera, with the use of less makeup.
Airbrush makeup has become extremely popular in the past few years. This is largely due to perfect complexion models that are “airbrushed” to give every part of their body a flawless finish. (On a side note, when photographers refer to “airbrush”, they are often referring to the post-production of the picture, where they use a computer program to soften and smooth out the skin of the model. In actuality, being airbrushed in photo is not real makeup at all, it is in fact a photo retouch done on screen).
Airbrush Advantages: If you're sharing the makeup - at a wedding, for example - the airbrush system is sanitary, since it never actually touches the skin. It gives a smooth matte finish, hiding pores and giving a beautiful more natural you!
Is any special Equipment needed?
Well the makeup is 'special' too but you can buy regular foundation and thin it out as necessary, but by doing this you end up loosing the pigment of the foundation, decreasing its coverage and also in some cases its longevity as well, so the airbrush formulations have a higher pigment content but in a very runny state so they're able to pass through the gun easily. This is in addition to of course your airbrush gun, hose and compressor.
And is there a form of certification for this or is the more of an art that's passed down/taught?
In some cases it is an art that is passed down and taught. The company's who have the airbrush makeup, usually do workshops on it as well, and give a certificate for it, however, it is easy to teach yourself as I did. I maintain feedback with the owner, so that any question I may have he is available to assist. Airbrush Makeup is now beginning to be integrated into the makeup schools curriculum as well.
